How to Donate Your Hair
Well, 2018 is here and that usually means a slew of new year's resolutions that we hardly ever keep. Lose weight, be more tidy, get a promotion--we've all been guilty of making promises to ourselves that fall through the cracks. One easy way to refresh yourself at the beginning of the year is to change up your look. If you're ready to cut off that hair you've been growing out all year, then consider donating it to a good cause.
We've put together a step-by-step guide for you to donate your hair. There are many awesome charities that will accept hair so check out the following conditions below.
You can donate your hair if its in the following condition:
- Color-treated or permed hair
- Hair cut years ago if stored in a ponytail or braid
- Layered hair is acceptable if the longest layer is 10 inches.
- Layered hair may be divided into multiple ponytails.
- Curly hair may be pulled straight to measure the minimum 10 inches.
- 10 inches measured tip to tip is the minimum length needed for a hairpiece.
The following hair cannot be accepted:
- Hair that has been bleached (usually this refers to highlighted hair). **If the hair was bleached years ago and has completely grown out it is fine to donate.
- Hair swept off of the floor (not bound in a ponytail)
- Hair shaved off and not in a ponytail. If you are going to shave your head, first divide hair into multiple ponytails to cut off).
- Dreadlocks
- Wigs, falls, hair extensions or synthetic hair
